For this assignment, you will all analyze "Hidden Intellectualism" in our book They Say/ I Say (p. 291-297). You will want to begin by examining the rhetorical situation in which the author is writing: the author's background, the potential audience, the purpose for writing, the occasion for writing, and any potential biases on the part of the author or audience. After establishing the Rhetorical Situation, you will use the set criteria including "Content" (Pathos, Ethos and Logos) and "Style" to support your thesis, which argues whether the text was effective, ineffective or mixed based on the rhetorical situation. You will use the Rhetorical Situation and Rhetorical Strategies from your notes stemming from my award-ready PowerPoint presentation (posted on blackboard) to examine and analyze your choice of text(s). You will then create a thesis after you have examined every criterion and element within the text. Only after the completion of the evaluation, should you create a thesis statement and choose three to four strategies to examine using examples (direct quotes and paraphrased information) from the text and strategies that best support your thesis.
